THE Tumut Acclimatisation Society and Hammy Cup committee boosted local fishing stocks when they released 15,000 young golden perch, aka yellowbelly, into Blowering Dam last Sunday.
The Acclimatisation Society’s Brian Free and Tony Howard collected the fish from Urana Fish Hatchery at Grong Grong, which were paid for by the NSW Government’s $2 for $1 native fish stocking program.
The yellowbelly supplement the previous release of 50,000 of the same species and recently the release of 100,000 Murray cod.
“I would like to say thanks the people who helped with the release,” Mr Free said.
This was followed up by another release of 49,000 yellowbelly by the TAS and DPI in Blowering on Wednesday and the same amount in Burrinjuck Dame later the same day.
TAS’s Brian Free said 120,000 cod would be released in the near future and there will also be big releases of trout in the Tumut area as well.
