Annual art show opening tonight

The longevity of the Tumut Art Show, well renowned in the eastern states of Australia, is only outshone by the quality of the artworks displayed at the annual exhibition this year.

The Art show now in its 66th year, continues to attract artists from interstate with over 300 physical artworks from Victoria, Queensland, ACT and both metropolitan and regional areas across New South Wales. Artists will be vying for the $15, 000 prize money offered over nine categories. Once again the community needs to be congratulated on supporting such a high profile art competition.

The 5Ways gallery and Studio has been transformed with all the paintings and textiles received, catalogued and hung by an enthusiastic group of volunteers over last weekend.

“Once again the quality is outstanding, so many differing styles and subjects making it a striking exhibition’, President Mary Anderson effuses “The hangers choice on Sunday was not easy with so many fabulous artworks to choose from. We have very talented return artists exhibiting and have attracted new and exciting talent showing for the first time in our area”.

The exhibition is available to be seen online at www.tumutart.g247.com.au. For the past few years, born out of Covid, the Art Society has presented a hybrid event with works shown both physically and virtually. With almost 100 more online artworks added to the 300 in the physical event where it can be viewed and purchased online.

Gallery Curator Jennie Forster comments that “The works range from traditional to contemporary, with abstracts sitting alongside beautiful renditions of our Snowy Valleys local scenes. The spectrum is broad and exciting with experimental works on paper to the most intricate textiles. There really is something for all tastes, both virtually and in the exhibition at 5Ways”.

The Art Show opens tonight at 6pm, with a gala showcasing event with everyone welcome. Prizes and awards will be announced at 7pm with the official opening and all artworks will be for sale. Entry is $10 with beverages and canapes included.

The exhibition runs for two weeks, open daily from 10am to 4pm including Easter. It will close on Sunday April 7 at 1pm. Entry over the exhibition is $5 with $3 for pensioners and children free. The Tumut Art Society’s 5Ways Gallery and studio is located at 2A Tumut Plains Road. For more information email [email protected] or call the studio on 0402 791 046.
