Batlow View girls having fun and honoring founding members

GIRLS CAN DO IT: Batlow VEW girls The Can Can girls- Maria, Susan, Margaret and Evelyn.

THE 34rd birthday meeting of the Batlow VIEW Club was held at the Batlow RSL on May 8.

The theme was the upcoming Paris Olympics games.

The room was beautifully decorated with French and Australian flags and fresh flowers, and members dressed in their best red, white and blue clothes.

Members from the Adelong VIEW Club were welcome guests and added to the colour and gaiety of the occasion.

President Linda gave a report on the recent Zone Conference held in Wagga, which was enjoyed by the members who attended.

At this meeting, Clarice Ross and Margaret Sedgwick were presented with Certificates of Appreciation as founding members of the Batlow VIEW.

At this meeting, a special presentation of this Certificate was given to Jo Baron, also a founding member of Batlow VIEW.

After this presentation, Jo was asked to cut the birthday cake, which was decorated in the colours of the French flag.

Many members had fond memories of visits to Paris, displaying various souvenirs and memorabilia, which they then described in a show and tell session.

The viewpoint: “What sport would you participate in if you could?” produced the usual wit and humour.

Evelyn persuaded three other ladies to join her in a demonstration of the CanCan dance – well, they called in dancing. It was greeted with loud applause and cheers.

Joanne Murrell was the guest speaker and told of her two visits to Paris, a city she remembers fondly. She took the sensible decision before the first trip to learn the basics of the language which helped when meeting the French people.

Even though she was not fluent, her efforts to converse were appreciated.

Replying to a question from the floor, Jo also gave a brief account of her association with Anglicare, where she is dealing with the aftermath of the 2020 fires, giving support to those affected.

Lynne Firli thanked Jo for her most interesting talk, which was enjoyed by all and a fitting part of our most enjoyable party.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 12, at the Batlow RSL Club, 11am for 11.30am.

The guest speaker will be MR Ryan Forsyth, principal of St Mary’s School.

The Viewpoint for June will be “What is the best/worst/funniest memory you have of school?”

Acceptances and apologies to Maria on 0466 263 333 please.
