Tumut’s women bowlers have won through to the 2013 State Pennants Championship on the Central Coast.
Monday and Tuesday saw the local ladies play in the No 3 Pennants playoffs in Gundagai.
The competition was played in absolutely appalling conditions with winds heavy rain and freezing conditions.
Tumut (Southern Highlands) defeated Walla Walla/Oaklands (Riverina) 39 – 34 in the first game played on Monday with the conditions taking its toll on all the Tumut players.
But they stood their ground and came away with the win, despite the clash going over into Tuesday’s program, due to the amount of water settling on the greens.
After knocking out Wall, Tumut backed up to play Hay (Murrumbidgee).
What a match it turned out to be. Tumut needed to win with the highest aggregate score to advance to the state finals to be held later in the year.
All players gave it their all and at times their frustration was felt by the spectators as the score varied up and down.
At the end of the 21 ends Tumut came out the victors 39-34 and gained the overall win with eight points followed by Hay on 6 and Walla on 1.
Tumut now will have to travel to the Central Coast in August to attend the 2013 State Pennants Championship.
