ANOTHER year of Business House Bowls has finished and last Thursday saw the top four teams play off in the grand final.
Top two teams ARB and TTJ played against each other vying for first and second places while Singing Chicks and Tumut Plains played off for the third and fourth placings.
With a scoring system where two points were deducted for each ‘member player’ – that is club membership and full bowls player, were deducted from the scores it saw the team or ARB (Adam Rossiter, Scotty Jamieson and Dean Parry) come out winners.
Runners up were TTJ.
Third placed team was that of Tumut Plains.
And coming in a close fourth were Singing Chicks.
Teams that did not make the finals all played social games for the night.
All players and supporters ended the night with a ‘pizza supper’ – thanks to Club Tumut.
The short six-week season raised money this year for Tumut Can Assist resulting in a cheque for $4000 being handed over to representative Debbie Robinson and Hayley Crampton at the conclusion of the evening.
Ms Crampton thanked everyone for their generosity saying that all money donated to Can Assist within the Tumut region stays within the area and helps support those suffering, undergoing treatment and coping with cancer.
“This money helps those people with transport, accommodation during treatments, pharmaceutical expenses and much more during their journey through cancer,” she said.
Ms Crampton said over the past year Tumut Can Assist distributed $98,000 in helping cancer patients – all monies raised through the local group and donations.
She said that on average the Tumut group receives request of almost 40 patients each month and over the past year nearly 70 patients received help.
Club Tumut manager, Jarrod Rossiter also thanked all those who had taken part in this year’s Business House Bowls competition and for their generosity in raising such a great amount for Can Assist. “A very worthy cause,” he said.
WEEKEND VISITORS:
Some 30 members of the Corowa Civic Bowls Club visited Tumut for three day this past weekend enjoying the glorious weather, town activities and especially the hospitality of the Tumut Bowls Club.
The Corowa group were enjoying their end-of-season trip away. Victorian teams play a 14-week pennant season starting in October and finishing mid-March.
A special social game was organised and held on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday morning players joined up with Tumut members for the Super Sunday match.
Mixed teams were organised and all had a great day.
On Friday the Corowa group met up with Tumut club members enjoying a dinner at the club and before leaving for home on Sunday, after the bowls match, they enjoyed a lunch before boarding their bus for the trip back to Corowa.
One Corowa member was heard to say “I really like Tumut, it is better than Corowa” and that was the high praise for the town and the club.
