Twenty Rural Fire Service crews, forestry firefighters and three fire-bombing aircraft are fighting a blaze in pine plantation near Ellerslie, between Adelong and Tarcutta, that has quickly grown to more than 600 hectares.
Winds are pushing the fire to the south-east and farmers on Ellerslie Road and Yaven Creek Road have been advised to enact their bushfire survival plan.
Peter Jones, from the Riverina Highlands RFS, said about 20 trucks and crews from both Riverina RFS and Riverina Highlands RFS have been joined by firefighters from Hume Forests and Forestry NSW, two fixed wing aircraft and a fire-bombing helicopter.
“The situation is fluid and is moving quickly,” Mr Jones said. “We’re throwing anything and everything we have at it.”
“Farmers on Ellerslie and Yaven Creek Roads should enact their bushfire survival plan. If they’re prepared to defend, stay and defend, if unable to do so, they need to leave and leave now.”
Ellerslie and Yaven Creek Roads have both been closed to the public.
