RACING returns to Gundagai this weekend when the Gundagai-Adelong Racing Club host their highly anticipated Gundagai Cup meeting on Sunday.

The TAB meeting will be headlined by the $36,000 Gundagai Cup feature race, which offers the winner direct entry into the $200,000 Wagga Gold Cup to be run and won at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Friday, 2 May.

With the disappointment of last year’s abandoned cup meeting long forgotten, the town is abuzz with excitement as locals and visitors get set for a great day of country racing in the 2025 edition.

The track was rated a good 4 on Tuesday, with perfect autumn conditions forecast for a brilliant day of racing on Sunday.

Gundagai will once again be on the world stage as the time-honoured race meeting will be screened throughout the world on Sky Racing.

With a mammoth 217 nominations over the eight-race program, a strong field of gallopers will be hoping to repeat the feat of the 2023 Gundagai Cup winner, The Doctor’s Son, trained by Maddison Collins and ridden by Josh Richards.

The cup race, run under handicap conditions and over 1800 metres, will feature a prize pool of $36,000 with $17,300 going to the winning connections.

Punters will be well catered for with bar facilities and the dining room open for sit-down meals or take away, deliciously catered by Belinda and the team from Embellish Catering.

Gates open at the picturesque Gundagai Racecourse at 11.30am on Sunday; $10 entry for adults and kids get in free of charge.

For those wishing to attend the race meeting from Tumut and Adelong, there will be transport available.

Collection points for pick up will be at Tumut’s Whisk and Dish (11am), the Commercial Hotel Tumut (11:05am) and Adelong Services Citizens and Bowling Club (11:30am).

A ticket costing $40 covers your bus fare and entry into the races.

The bus will drop people off in Adelong and Tumut after the last race.
