Driver serious after log truck hits tree

The heavily damaged log truck after the accident on Bombowlee Creek Road.

A log truck driver is in a serious condition in Wagga Base Hospital after crashing his log truck into a tree on Bombowlee Creek Road at Bombowlee this morning.

The driver, belelived to be aged in his 60s, was driving the empty log truck along the road about 6.30am when he struck a tree on the opposite side of the road. The section of road where this occurred was subject to road works.

The impact caused significant damage to the driver’s side of the truck’s cabin and the man suffered head injuries. NSW Ambulance sent for ambulance road crews, and other emergency services attended the scene.

After hitting the tree, part of the truck flattened a section of paddock fencing.

The man was pinned by his legs in the cabin until extricated by emergency services personnel. He was taken to to Wagga Base Hospital in a serious condition.

Council and Traffic Services directed traffic around the scene, and parts of the tree were removed from the truck.
