DESPITE a technical hitch which cut short one of the performances, Saturday’s Festival of the Falling Leaf online concert was a success.
Lyn Bowtell, Luke O’Shea and Montgomery Church, who were due to play at the festival, which was due to be held on Saturday but cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, held performances live online to an appreciative audiences.
Unfortunately, Golden Guitar winner Luke O’Shea’s performance suffered internet connection problems, but otherwise, the performances transmitted smoothly.
“Unfortunately Luke experienced some issues with his internet connection, which made his video difficult to watch by cutting in and out,” Festival chairperson Sam Phillips said.
“It started off ok but got gradually worse. One of those things out of our control unfortunately.”
The other two performances were seamless and very well received.
“We had a lot of viewers live on the page during each performance who responded positively and the videos have had further views and shares since,” Sam said.
“We had viewers tuning in live from as far away as Canada and New Zealand. In addition, we’ve had over 330 new “likers” of our Facebook page over the past week, quite a few during the promotional lead up, but many as a result of the performances on Saturday. I think this is a great measure of the event’s success and can only be positive news in attracting visitors to the region when restrictions are lifted.”
Feedback from the audience and performers alike has been overwhelmingly positive. The performers were particularly happy to be given the opportunity to play for a “live” audience during these uncertain times and certainly appreciated receiving a modest fee for their efforts, to be paid from the Festival’s entertainment budget.
“We, as a committee, felt that this was the right thing to do,” Sam said.
“The Festival committee would like to thank Lyn Bowtell, Luke O’Shea and Montgomery Church, as well as everyone who supported this event. We would encourage anyone to watch the videos back on our Facebook page if they missed them.”
