Friday night lights at Batlow

THE Star Redmen and Adelong Green and Gold will get local rugby league underway in Game 1 of the Tumut Old Boys 9s at Batlow this Friday night.

The Redmen are returning to the 9s this year and in their line-up to face Adelong includes the likes of Chace Bullock, Chris Pianelli (captain-coach), Aiden Thomas and Lewis Simister.

The Green and Gold will field the likes of Jordy Maher, Tate O’Donovan and Tyron Gorman. This game starts at 5.45pm, and will be followed by the first women’s match, with the Tumbarumba Greens facing off against defending champions the Commercial Sharks.

The home team, the Batlow Tigers, take on Tumbarumba after this. The Tigers have the likes of Jessie and Seth Bellchambers, Vincent Wise and Menzies Seumanutafa.

The Gundagai Tigers have entered the women’s competition for 2025 and they face 2024 grand finalists the Adelong Green and Gold in their first game, which starts at 7pm.

The fifth and final game of the evening will see defending champions the Bowlie Bears taken on the Woolpack Jets.

The tournament moves to Tumbarumba the following Friday night, and on Friday February 21 Adelong Showground will host the matches.

The final two competition rounds, four and five, will be held at Twickenham, as will the finals of the Bristow-Madigan Plate, Pearl Jeffery Plate and Roddy Shield on Friday March 14.
