Get crafty and make new friendships with CWA

The first meeting of the Tumut and Surrounds CWA Branch craft group was a successful one last Thursday, with plenty of crafting, laughs and new friendships formed.

THE Tumut and Surrounds CWA Branch have formed a craft group and are inviting interested members of the community to go along and join in.

You don’t have to be a member of the CWA, you don’t even have to be an expert craftsperson, you just need to take yourself along to what is an enjoyable, happy space where all are welcome.

“It’s a fun, friendly group where we are encouraging anyone who would like some company to come along and join in,” said branch handicraft officer Mandy Priest.

“Morning tea is supplied, you just need to take along your lunch, a gold coin donation to help with the overheads, and whatever craft item you may be working on.

“Or if you’d just like to come along for a chit chat amongst some great company, that’s perfectly fine as well. It’s not all about craft; we aim to make it a good social space as well.

“So for people who live alone and are feeling a bit lonely and in need of some company, we’d love to see you come along.

“We want this to be a fun, friendly group.”

The group meets at the CWA Rooms at 148 Wynyard Street twice a month on a Thursday (except during school holidays) from 9.45am to 2pm, with the next session scheduled for Thursday, October 17.

The group would love to see the CWA craft rooms at the front of the building opened up again at some stage, as well as possibly holding some workshops later on down the track.

The Tumut and Surrounds CWA Branch formed after Tumut Evening Branch went into recess in December 2023 for six months. The success of the new branch has seen almost 30 members join and there is always room for more.

Meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month from February to November, 9:30am for a 10am start.
