A man who went missing in the Cooma area last weekend has been found safe and well.

On Sunday, December 8,  a 60-year-old man left his home in the ACT to go fishing in Kosciusko National Park.

He was seen later that day at a fishing shop in Cooma but failed to return home and was reported missing last Friday.

Police from Monaro Local Area Command, with the assistance of Polair and local volunteer rescue units, conducted extensive searches for the man and issued an appeal for assistance to locate him.

As a direct result of information received from the public the man was located in Jindabyne about 12:55pm today (Saturday).

The man was found safe and well and has told police he encountered car trouble causing him to become stranded in Jindabyne.

Police would like to thank members of the public and media for all their assistance in the matter.
