Due to safety concerns regarding flooding at Rotary Pioneer Park in Tumut, the 2016 Lanterns on the Lagoon and Sculptures in the Park Festival has been cancelled.
The festival was to be held on Saturday.
A committee spokesperson said the decision was heartbreaking, but was made for the safety of festival attendees.
“The rain and weather conditions have flooded Rotary Pioneer Park in large areas and the low level crossing is no longer low,” the spokesperson said.
“We have looked at two other locations to try to find a way to carry on however none were found to be safe alternatives.
“We are completely devastated. We have been working all year and looking forward to this weekend in anticipation of it being our biggest and best festival so far.
“We know that this news is extremely disappointing for everyone.
“We sincerely thank all our sponsors, lantern makers, sculptors, food stall holders, artists, volunteers and the community for their tremendous support and work in preparation for the festival. We have been overwhelmed by this support and goodwill and this made it even more difficult to make this decision.
“We will be contacting all our stall holders and artists and all application fees will be refunded.”
