Lorraine gets another stint as Chamber president

Lorraine Wysman was elected president of the Tumut Regional Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night.

Lorraine Wysman has served as president of the Tumut Regional Chamber of Commerce more times than she can remember but is happy to be doing it for another year.

Lorraine was nominated and elected at the Chamber’s AGM at Club Tumut on Tuesday night.

“I was nominated and I’m happy to do it for another 12 months,” she said.

Lorraine takes over the president’s job from Michael Hannah, who was elected to the committee.

She has been involved with the chamber for the better part of a decade.

“The Chamber was previously affiliated with council, and we made a decision to step away from that in October 2009, and next October we will be doing something to celebrate that,” she said.

Lorraine is happy with the team elected at the AGM.

“I’ve got a good number of people with initiative and dedication on the team for the next 12 months,” she said.

Raechel Weaver is vice-president, Deidre O’Cleary is treasurer, Kerrie Dodd secretary and the three committee members are Mr Hannah, Virginia Robinson and Michelle Rossiter.

“Small business is a vital component of our business community,” Lorraine said.

“We work hard at trying to come up with new ideas. This month we celebrate small business month, and we have business breakfast on Thursday October 18 at 7 for 7.30am at the Riverside Café. This is a joint venture with Snowy Valleys Council. It’s free of charge for business owners and associates. “We will have three guest speakers.

“There is also the Christmas street party on Thursday the 13th of December. There’s a very enthusiastic committee organising that. It’s a fun family night.”

Lorraine thinks is has been a good year businesswise for Tumut.

“Snowy Hydro has created an air of optimism, and we look forward to the developments,” she said.

“The chamber appreciates the growing relationship with Snowy Valleys Council, and their regular attendance. We want to build that relationship.”

Lorraine attended last night’s Snowy Hydro board dinner at Coorabyra winery as Chamber president.

New chamber members are very welcome, and meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 5.45pm at Club Tumut. Call Jo on 0488 111 617 for more information.
