THE Tumut Eagles got back on the field for the first time in 2025 in the Matthew Lopez Cup game at the Bull Paddock on Saturday, raising over $1500 for Can Assist.
The match is held each year in the pre-season to honour the memory of club legend Matthew Lopez, who passed away in 2021.
The Eagles took on their most keen rivals in Saturday’s match – each other.
“Saturday’s game went great with Ian Kelly’s Gen Z team defeating Michael Parker’s Gen X team 8-2,” Eagles seniors coach Jacob Luck said.
“I couldn’t have been happier with the turnout we got with not only players but spectators as well making the overall day special, I think with the heat and the overall lack it was getting hard towards the end but it was an entertaining game right to the final whistle. On the day we raised $1550 and that’s not including online donations. After the game we had a presentation where we invited Matthew Lopez’s family up to share some words with everyone and help present the Lopez Cup. Nobody got injured during the game.
