THERE will be an opportunity to enjoy a fun game of football and help a great cause when the Tumut Eagles host the Matthew Lopez Cup on Saturday at the Bull Paddock in Tumut.
The match is held every year to honour the memory of Eagles club legend, Matthew Lopez, who passed away in 2021.
The match will be played the day before Matt would’ve turned 34 on the 9th.
The Eagles’ senior squad will be fundraising for Can Assist.
While last year’s game was against a Gundagai Panthers XI, this year it will be an interclub friendly where Gen X will be pitted against Gen Y.
The kick-off will be at 2.30pm.
“As for the amount we wanted to raise, we don’t really have a target; anything will do,” Eagles player-coach Lachlan Anderson said.
“Last years raised around $1000. We are just hoping for a good turn out; maybe people who aren’t associated with the club or knew Matt from somewhere else other than the Eagles; and past members of the club making an appearance.”
