Pfizer vaccine now available locally

Starting today (Tuesday), Fitzroy Medical Centre in Tumut will be administering the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to eligible residents in the region.

Fitzroy Medical Centre will be administering the Pfizer vaccine, alongside the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Fitzroy Medical Centre General Practitioner Gamal Mark said he is proud of be the first general practice in the region to be delivering the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to their eligible community members.

“With demand for the Pfizer vaccine growing in recent months, our centre is pleased to be the first local practice to offer the Pfizer vaccine to our residents” said Dr Mark.

Dr Mark stressed the importance of as many Australian’s as possible getting vaccinated, starting with the high priority groups within communities.

“Covid-19 vaccination is vital for public health and safety, and we need to vaccinate as many people as possible to protect our communities and develop heard immunity from Covid-19,” said Dr Mark.

“It is important that all eligible community members consider booking in for their Covid-19 vaccine as soon as possible.

“If you have any concerns regarding the vaccine or your eligibility, please make an appointment to discuss any issues with one of our GP’s.”

Each week the Fitzroy Medical Centre will be administering Pfizer vaccinations from Tuesday to Thursday, and AstraZeneca vaccinations on Monday and Friday. Fitzroy Medical Centre can be reached for phone bookings at 02 6947 2011.

The Pfizer vaccine is currently being offered to people aged 40-59, and anybody under the age of 40 who also meets additional eligibility criteria. The vaccine is also available at Murrumbidgee region general practice respiratory clinics in Wagga Wagga, Griffith, Young, Gundagai and Deniliquin. 

Tumbarumba Medical Centre is among those to offer the vaccine.

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) Acting CEO, Julie Redway said it is important that people who are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination come forward and make an appointment.

“We are now entering a significant phase of the national vaccination rollout. This expansion of vaccine availability will give more people the ability to protect themselves and the community from COVID-19,” Ms Redway said.

“It is also important people continue to isolate and get tested if they are experiencing any symptoms and to follow current health advice at all times.”

The Pfizer vaccine will be offered to eligible residents alongside the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is also being administered at local vaccination hubs and participating general practices.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is available for people who are aged 60 and above.

MPHN’s COVID-19 Pandemic Lead, Dr Alison Koschel has commended the incredible work and dedication of all staff who are participating in the National vaccination rollout.

“General practice and vaccination hub staff are working tirelessly to provide this important vaccine to the community. As demand for the vaccine increases it is important people remain patient and kind when booking an appointment,” Dr Koschel said.
