Pub 9s to kick off in Batlow

Action from the Tumut Pub 9s competition last year.

THE Tumut Pub 9s competition will kick off in Batlow next Friday night with the Tumbarumba Greens taking on the Bowlie Bears in the first game at 6pm.

Following this, the home team, the Batlow Tigers, will play the Adelong Green and Gold, before the Woolpack Jets face the Royal Devils in the final match.

“We are looking forward to having good weather,” Tumut Blues Old Boys secretary Tony Roddy said.

“It was about 10 degrees when we opened the competition last year down at Batlow.”

Tumbarumba and Adelong will host subsequent rounds, before the competition moves to Twickenham for the later rounds and the finals.

Mr Roddy said that women’s 9s games would be held this year, but they would be exhibition games, rather than competitive fixtures.

Teams from Tumut and Adelong will be involved, and possibly Tumbarumba if enough players can be found.

These games will get underway at Tumbarumba on Friday February 16 at Tumbarumba.

“We are still hopeful we will get a women’s competition up and running next year,” Mr Roddy said.
