Riverina Region Championships continue

The second week of the Riverina Region Championships will continue at the Riverina Paceway tonight.

The eight-race-program will include the next five heats of the $100,000 series, after the first five heats were run and won last week.

Last week saw series favourite Whereyabinboppin win heat two, running a near track record of 2:40.0 for the 2270m, whilst also recording a slick mile rate of 1:53.5.

Other heat winners included Western Sonador, Rocky Creed, We Salute You and Streamliner.

Wagga Harness Racing Club CEO Graeme White believes Whereyabinboppin is the obvious horse to win the series but didn’t discount his competitors.

“Whereyabinboppin is definitely the horse to beat, running nearly a track record here on Friday,” White said.

“In saying that, other horses went quite well and anything can happen in the final.”

White believes the Temora trained Red is the frontrunner in tonight’s final heat and a potential smoky for the overall series.

“Red is definitely a big chance in this series, he had no luck last start with the terrible draw but he is drawn to be a big chance,” White said.

“If he gets to the front he will take some beating.”

The Ray Walker trained, and Daryll Perrot driven four-year-old has been solid to start his career, winning two from four and recording a slick mile rate of 1:56.9.

White also praised the second of the Walker and Perrot runners, Plumpton Road, who draws close to the outside of the front row in race six.

“He is another one of Ray’s that has some ability and if close enough to the lead, he is a big chance of surprising them,” White said.
