JARRAH Sportsground was covered with sunshine and young rugby players with the running of the ACT Brumbies / SIRU Primary School Rugby Gala Day on Friday.
Teams from local schools battled it out from the morning to the mid-afternoon under the guidance of ACT Brumbies officials and school coaches and teachers.
Callum Redman, Rugby Development Officer at ACT Brumbies, said it was a very good day.
“There was great representation by the schools,” he said.
“Some of the schools put in up to four teams (including Franklin Public School and McAuley Catholic College).”
Some small school didn’t have enough students to field their own team or teams, but this didn’t end up being a problem.
“Steve Smith of South Gundagai Public School got three or four kids from each school and made up a team,” Redman said.
The standard of rugby was high despite the youth of the players.
“it was a really good display, lots of tries; great attack, and a good amount of shots going in.”
Later, ACT Brumbies players were special guest at a Tumut Bullants gala afternoon at Jarrah.
