C Grade

The junior hockey teams took to the field in a thrilling match that highlighted the significant improvement in skills and teamwork from all players.

The game was a showcase of both individual brilliance and collective effort, leaving spectators excited about the future of these young athletes.

Ashley Pearce led the charge with two well-taken goals, showing a sharp eye for goal and a keen sense of positioning. Clay Sutton added another goal with a strong finish, reflecting his growing confidence and precision in front of the net.

Billy Bathgate and Oliver Dodds impressed with their excellent passing, consistently setting up attacking opportunities for their teammates.

Mila Webb stood out with some critical tackles, breaking down opposition plays and showing her defensive prowess. 

Henry Piper was pivotal in linking play with his strong ball carries and accurate passing, ensuring smooth transitions from defence to attack.

Danielle Oberholzer dazzled with her dribbling skills, weaving through defenders and creating space for her team. Toby Ridley and Mitchell Oberholzer demonstrated solid teamwork, working well together to maintain pressure and keep the game flowing.

Kai Flew’s big hits were a highlight, driving the ball forward with power, while Everly Webb’s smart positioning helped maintain the team’s shape.

Maggie Piper came close to scoring, showing good anticipation and positioning in the attacking circle, keeping the opposition defence on high alert. Issy Dodd had plenty of good touches throughout the match. 

Overall, the game was a fantastic display of improved skills, teamwork, and enthusiasm from all the players. The future looks bright for these juniors as they continue to hone their abilities and develop as a team.

B Grade

With limited numbers in B Grade, a modified game was played on a smaller field. Despite the change, the players delivered an exciting match filled with teamwork, great play, and plenty of goals.

Younger players Ashley Pearce and Alex Day took full advantage of the smaller field, showcasing their growing skills with the support of their teammates. Ashley impressed with a well-earned goal, highlighting her composure and finishing ability. Gabby Hicks also played well, eager to get the ball on her stick.

Tom Belt stood out with his speed and strength, creating numerous chances and scoring goals that kept his team in control. Katie Jeffery was a constant attacking threat, applying pressure on the opposition with her aggressive play. 

Chloe Pearce and Zoe Bathgate were key contributors on both ends of the field. They each found the back of the net while also making crucial tackles to maintain momentum for their side. 

Culley Reynolds played a balanced game, defending well and pushing forward effectively in the second half.

Sara Hannan was invaluable with her solid defensive support and consistent positioning. Charlotte Kelly dominated the midfield with strong distribution and ball control, while Taylor Kelly kept the opposition on their toes with her attacking presence. Gracie Massey’s smart positional play was rewarded with a goal, rounding off a well-rounded performance in both attack and defence.

The game, despite being adapted to suit the numbers, was a showcase of teamwork and skill development. Every player made meaningful contributions, proving that even in a modified setting, they can deliver an entertaining and competitive match.

A Grade

Middy Mites 2 v Mustangs 1

Both teams played well despite the hot weather and it was an evenly matched game, with Middy Mites getting extra help from Quicksticks Chelsea Webb and Taylor Kelly and Mustangs borrowing Tom Belt from Wildcats to fill the field.

For Mustangs, Carly Adams led the charge for her team, attacking strongly all game. Her relentless energy and forward drives put the opposing defence under constant pressure. Gabby Hicks was a key presence as well, positioning herself expertly to support both in attack and defence, contributing to her team’s shape and flow. Chloe Pearce had an outstanding match, combining strong running with solid defensive work. She linked up effectively with her forwards, creating several scoring opportunities. 

Alicia Magann was rock-solid in defence, as always, thwarting numerous attacks and providing stability at the back.

For Middy Mites, Lyndal Hannan was strong in defence, with Bec Connolly doing a great job as usual. Taylor and Charlotte Kelly worked well together attacking and Amanda Kendall was great all over the field, stepping back to cover in defence when needed. 

Sara and Charlotte Hannan played well, and Andrea Arragon did some good work on the right side as well. Amanda Kendall was able to score first for Middy Mites, followed by Charlotte Kelly.

The Mustangs had their share of chances, with several near misses and shots hitting the post. Despite their persistence, they couldn’t convert until late in the game when Zoe Bathgate finally found the back of the net, securing a well-deserved consolation goal.
