Storm causes damage at Batlow Golf Course

Some of the damage caused by the storm at Batlow Golf Course.

THE massive storm that swept through the region last Wednesday caused multiple tree damage on and around the Batlow Golf course but Hoc rallied his workers and had the course playable again by the weekend. Unfortunately, a lot of damage is still evident and will require ongoing volunteer work to get the course back to pre-storm condition.

Saturday’s competition drew a good field, and Ari Lavia scored the best with a nice 36 Stableford points.

Andrew Vaz and Joe Ross each finished with 33 points, giving them second and third respectively.  Steve Irwin and Ron Canlin collected the pins on offer.

The ball-runs both proved very popular last week with Matt Rudd and Kerry Skein scoring the best on Wednesday with 21 Stableford points each. After the count-back Matt came first and Kerry second. Kerry picked up the pin on number three.

On Friday the players took to the storm-damaged course albeit with a few hazards impeding their play. Ray Lynch was the winner with 20 Stableford points, Vazzy second with 18, while Steve Irwin and Ari Lavia both finished with 17 points.

The last round of the Hill Zone Pennants was played at Welaregang last Sunday where Batlow took on the host team and went down 3/2. Winners on the day were Burg 2/1 and Vazzy 3/2.

Tumbarumba defeated Corryong and that win promoted them to top spot on the ladder. Batlow held on to second place and will now play Tumbarumba on Sunday February 9 with the venue likely to be Tumbarumba.

Upcoming events – Walwa will host their annual Australia Day Ambrose on Sunday January 26 and the MDGA will hold the Grassgreens Championships at Corowa Golf Club on Sunday February 2.
