Tumut High School’s Open Boys’ basketball team have finished fifth in the state after a solid two days of competition at the NSW Combined High School Sports Association Basketball knockout.
Playing at Hills Basketball Stadium last Wednesday and Thursday, Tumut were up against it, going down to eventual winners Hunter Sports by 15 points, while pushing Sydney Boys High all the way before going down by seven points.
Showing just how hard their pool was, Hunter Sports and Sydney Boys met in the final, with Hunter blowing their rivals away to win by 30.
Tumut High School then beat Smith’s Hill High before winning the fifth-place final.
Coach Brett Beavan was proud of his side, who he believed were unlucky to draw the top two teams.
“It was a good result, and the boys know they were probably the second or third best team and would have challenged Hunter in the final if it wasn’t for the draw and some tough results,” Beavan said.
“They were awesome and just played so well.”
