Saturday’s charity bowls day at Club Tumut raised $8000 for Tumut rugby league stalwart Wayne Annetts and his family.

“We had 50 bowlers take part and 70 people at the luncheon, and we were more than taken aback by the response of the community,” Tumut Blues spokesman Ray “Dossie” Carr said.

Wayne, who is suffering ill health, was a dedicated Blues player and committee member, and he only recently retired as treasurer of the Tumut Old Boys due to his health.

“Every since he put a guernsey on at the age of 16 he has been one of the most loyal people at the club,” Ray said.

Former Canterbury league legend Greg Brentnall and Riverina Men of League president Kell Tilden made the trip and took to the green on the day.

Wayne was able to make to the formal part of the day after the bowls.
