Tumut juniors shine at State Titles

GRINNING WINNERS: The Tumut Netball Association Under 12s representative team with coaches Tracey and Taylor Gorman after their triumph at the Junior State Netball Titles in Sydney.

THE Tumut Netball Association Junior representatives have just returned from the Junior State Netball Titles at Baulkham Hills and it was an extremely successful tournament, especially for the Under 12s who won the Division 4 title.

The Club Tumut Under 12s played 19 games against various netball associations from across the state and lost only one match. Many of these games were nail-biters, with the wins often decided by a single goal, including against the runners up association Kiama, a testament to the team’s unwavering determination.

Over the entire weekend, the team displayed sheer happiness, thoroughly enjoying every moment of the experience. The result they achieved was indeed a bonus, adding an extra layer of elation to an already memorable weekend filled with laughter, teamwork, and the love of the game.

“The success of the team shows the collective effort and unity displayed in every game,” 12s co-coach Taylor Gorman said.

Coaches Tracey and Taylor Gorman had confidence in their abilities and competitiveness, yet results surpassed all expectations.

Every member of the team contributed significantly, fulfilling their roles, and thereby achieving this incredible milestone.

“They just got on the court they just played the game,” Taylor said.

“It didn’t matter who they came up against, they came off with smiles and couldn’t wait to get back on for the next one,” Tracey and Taylor said.

“Every single girl who took the court did their job, each one of them stood out in their own role and we couldn’t be prouder. To say there were lots of tears, mainly by us, is an understatement; we are just so happy for them and our association who share the win”.

Behind the scenes, a wave of support encouraged their journey. From dedicated training sessions in the lead-up to the competition, to the unwavering encouragement of family members on the sidelines, and the unity of the entire Tumut Netball Association, including, the executive committee, coaches, managers, and fellow players, everyone played a crucial role in rallying behind this team.

The victory of the Club Tumut under 12s netball team not only marks a significant achievement in their young lives but also stands as a testament to the power of teamwork, determination, and unwavering support.

“This experience will hopefully pave the way for these girls in their love for the sport, the memories they have made will last a lifetime and we couldn’t be more privileged to have been there to help guide them to their win,” Tracey and Taylor said.

“We are just so proud and happy for them.”

The Under 13s came third (on a count back) and the Under 14s came 13th.

The Under 13s were extremely close to securing second place with the result coming down to goals scored between the two teams. Over the weekend the team played 19 games and won 16. Two of them were extremely close and came down to the wire.

“This was such an amazing achievement,” 13s coach Michaela Smith said.

“The Under 13s exceeded my expectations. Each and every one of them did their job and played incredibly. For a team that came 12th last year to tie for second and, on a count back, came third is outstanding! I couldn’t ask for anything more; they gave it their all each and every game. They have worked exceptionally hard the past five months and it really goes to show what athletes these young girls are.

“Their performance was excellent in each and every game. They never gave up and gave it their all across all three days. From our defence to our centre court and through to our shooters, they all played their part, to do what was needed to win. One of our goals was to have fun and enjoy the moment and that we did while winning so many games, which was a double bonus. The girls demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship towards one another and their opposition all weekend. The teamwork across the three days goes to show the effort they put in to come in the top three.

“When I saw the ladder to see we came third from a count back I shed a couple of happy tears. I am so incredibly proud of my girls.”

The Tumut Under 13 girls played against Armidale, Brunswick-Byron, Glen Innes, Gloucester, Parkes, Quirindi, Eurobodalla, Kiama, Wollondilly, Casino, Woolgoolga, Muswellbrook, Singleton, Gunnedah, Inverell, Blayney, Cowra, Forbes, Sapphire Coast.

All the girls excelled beyond my expectations and it would be difficult to single out any individual player as the whole team was sensational.

Our shooters, Ellie, Addison and Bridee, where outstanding and withheld the pressure nailing many difficult shots.

Our defensive end consists of Charlotte, Abigail and Olivia who defended like champions and never gave up.

Sierra, Chelsea, Tessa and Emmy shone in our centre court and ran all day, constantly finding space and chasing down loose balls.

There were 18 teams in the Under 14s Division from all over Regional NSW.

“The girls played to a high standard all weekend and our opposition had to work hard for every goal,” Tumut 14s coach Carmel Lemon said.

“Our transition down the court into attack was smooth and with the defence putting pressure on every pass it was exciting to watch.  We are all pleased with our effort and commitment.”
