THE Tumut Timberwolves Under 16 boys representative basketball team put on an impressive display at the Wangaratta Under 16 and Under 18 Basketball tournament held in Wodonga last weekend, making it to the Division 2 semi-finals and showing great promise for the future.

The Timberwolves kicked off their representative season with a strong performance in Game 1, defeating Tatura 46–28. They maintained their momentum in Game 2, overwhelming Echuca with a commanding 59–29 victory. Game 3 saw them at their best, crushing Corryong 64–27 in a team effort that highlighted their defensive and offensive strength.

Their quarter-final match against Wodonga Navy showcased their determination, as they battled to a solid 53–37 win. However, the semi-finals brought a closely contested game against Wodonga Maroon. Despite their best efforts, the Timberwolves narrowly fell short, losing 50–54 in a nail-biter.

The team’s success was built on strong teamwork, with every player contributing to their impressive tournament run. Newcomers Matt Stevens and Julius Pervival seamlessly integrated into the squad, adding fresh energy and skill to an already talented line up. Key players included Brad Beavan, who led by example with his court vision; Joey Parry, who was relentless on defence; and Will Jamieson, who showcased his scoring ability. Hunter Watts and Caleb Dowler worked tirelessly under the rim, while Jarrah Penrith and Angus Watts provided crucial depth off the bench.

Coach Todd Beavan praised the boys for their effort and growth throughout the tournament, saying, “The team worked incredibly well together and showed resilience in every game. Making it to the semi-finals in such a competitive tournament is a huge achievement.”

He also added, “It’s been fantastic to see how much these boys have improved as a team. The support from parents and the local community has been wonderful.”

The Timberwolves’ performance at the Wangaratta Tournament demonstrates the strength of Tumut’s basketball and promises an exciting season for this talented group of players.
