Tumut has again been hit by the scourge of car fires, with two vehicles torched over the weekend.
Early on Saturday morning, a late model Toyota Land Cruiser was driven into the Tumut Bush Common, roughly behind Banksia Crescent, and set alight.
Tumut Rural Fire Service were called out at 4.05am when Tumut Fire and Rescue were unable to get to the fire because of the terrain. RFS firefighters found the vehicle fully engulfed, and nearby bushland alight as well.
As well as the car, about 30 to 40 square metres of bushland was burnt. The firefighters extinguished both and returned to the station at about 6am.
Tumut Fire and Rescue were then called to the scene of a burning vehicle at Waratah Street in Tumut at about 5.50am on Sunday. They found a Holden Commodore utility well alight outside of a tyre business and extinguished it.
