Use it or lose it

Acclaimed Australian blues guitarist Ray Beadle, who will perform at Blues, Brews & BBQs.

BLUES, Brews & BBQs event spokesman Clayton Denson is urging locals to get behind Saturday’s event at the Riverglade Caravan Park or it will be the last one ever held.

“This is make or break,” he said.

“The support we have had from people is not real good. The out of town ticket sales have been pretty good, but in town has been pretty average. People need to support it to continue to have it.”

The event, previously held at Tumut Turf Club and known as Rock The Turf, is now in its 11th year.

Mr Denson said this was the first time the festival has concentrated on Australian blues artists.

“We’ve got Ray Beadle, who is hands down the best blues guitarist in Australia,” he said.

He rejects claims that the $69 adult ticket price is too expensive.

“It’s 10 hours of live music and entertainment; what else can you buy with $69?” he said.

“It’s cheaper than a packet of smokes.”

There are eight people on the organising committee.

“It’s a lot work for just eight people, and they do it out of the goodness of their hearts to try to bring something good to the town,” he said.

“We‘ve never had a great; we’ve stood on our own two feet, and it will be hard to continue if we don’t get local support.”

Tickets are available online, and at the gate, which opens at 10am on Saturday. The concert will run until 10pm.”
