C Grade:

THE junior hockey players showed promising signs of development this weekend as the young players took to the field with enthusiasm, determination, and a growing sense of confidence.

From the opening whistle, it was clear that the players are beginning to grasp key aspects of positioning and teamwork.

Lane Flett and Ashley Pearce were instrumental in controlling the midfield, using quick passes and smart movement to link defence and attack effectively.

Addisen Coleman, always alert at the back, made several crucial tackles and showed great awareness in organizing the defensive line.

Willow Parkes and Levi Crampton impressed with their ability to track back and support both ends of the pitch, while Jedd Crampton displayed excellent energy and hustle, constantly chasing down loose balls and putting pressure on the opposition.

Danielle Oberholzer and Taya Flett combined well on the wings, creating several opportunities with clever passing plays and quick sprints down the sideline.

Erick Whiting and Elanor Parkes held their positions well, demonstrating a growing understanding of spacing and field awareness that helped maintain the team’s shape.

Up front, Imogen Parkes and Mitchell Oberholzer showed great promise in attack, with Mitchell coming close to scoring after a brilliant solo run, and Imogen pressing high and creating turnovers.

Maggie Piper, Phillipa Henry and Isabelle Dodd rotated through the midfield and forward lines, all showing increasing confidence on the ball and a willingness to take on opponents.

A Grade:

Mustangs 1 v Wildcats 1

Wildcats and Mustangs battled out a one-all draw on Saturday.

This week’s Mustangs team was a blend of youthful energy with experienced leadership, resulting in an exciting and competitive performance.

A standout moment came from Carly Adams, who netted a sharp goal off a well-executed penalty corner.

Mustangs welcomed new addition Ben Chilcott, who slotted in seamlessly and showed early signs of becoming a strong contributor.

Young players Cody Johnson and Gabby Hicks brought contagious energy to the match, chasing down every ball and lifting the team with their positive attitudes.

Meanwhile, Ara Flett and Gracie Massey stepped into unfamiliar positions with maturity beyond their years. Their excellent listening and eagerness to improve did not go unnoticed.

Alicia Magann and Zoe Bathgate displayed grit and determination throughout the match, fighting hard in every contest and refusing to give up on any play.

Billy Bathgate impressed with his smart positioning and clean trapping.

At the back, Sam Flenley was rock-solid in defence, breaking down several attacking moves with well-timed tackles and excellent reading of the game.

For Wildcats Jacki Carter and Erin Tobin were strong in defence.

Wildcats forward line found it difficult getting through the Mustang defence, but they never stopped trying.

Wildcats’ goal was scored by Amanda Kendall, on loan from Middy Mites.

Wildcats needed help to make up their numbers and a big thank you goes to Amanda Kendall, Jane Arragon, Sarah Hannan and Charlotte Hannan. It was appreciated!

Quicksticks 1 v Middy Mites 0

The A Grade match between Middy Mites and Quicksticks saw both teams playing well and sharing possession of the ball.

Quicksticks utilised their younger team members to work the ball up the field and in to the circle with Taylor and Paige Kelly, Cody Johnson, Zoe Bathgate and Gabby Hicks playing strong hockey and working well together.

Alicia Magann, Chelsea Webb and Jo Salmon were instrumental in defence and getting the ball through to the forwards.

Jodi Rollings scored a neat goal for Quicksticks.

Middy Mites played a very strong defensive game.

Sarah Hannan and Kerrie McDonald along with Naomi Jeffery in goals kept Quicksticks attack at bay, whilst Charlotte Kelly and Charlotte Hannan worked hard in attack.

Amanda Kendell proved just as strong in defence as she is in attack and Lily Rosetta was great all over the field, consistently working towards the goal and creating plenty of chances, she was unlucky not to score.

Quicksticks took the win 1-0.

There is general bye for hockey next Saturday, 7 June due to the long weekend. There will also be no training on Friday. We are having another meeting on Thursday, 19 June, 6pm, at Club Tumut.

Please see below for information about changes to umpiring for an upcoming trial period:

The Tumut and District Hockey Association is going to trial a new system for umpiring for four weeks between Round Six (Saturday, 14 June) and Round Nine (Saturday, 5 July).

During this period umpires will be paid $10 per game.

This is a great opportunity to try umpiring for the first time or after a break. If you are not confident umpiring on your own you are welcome to have a more experienced umpire shadow you during the game.

If you are interested in umpiring or being a shadow umpire, please have a look at the draw below and email Alex Cutts with the dates and times you are available.

If you require a shadow umpire and have someone lined up, please include their name in your availability.

If you don’t have someone let Alex know and she can organise someone to umpire with you.

If you are umpiring for the first time or looking for a refresher, there is a free foundational umpiring course online through Hockey Australia: https://www.hockey. org.au/hockey-ed-accreditations/foundation-umpiring/

Could all teams please note, this trial will hopefully encourage different players to umpire, however there may be times no one volunteers for, and if that is the case, Alex will contact teams playing the game before or after to provide an umpire.
