Scale model show a winner

ORGANISERS of the Rob Burns Memorial Scale Model Show held in Tumut on Saturday April 27 were delighted with its success and want to hold it again next year.

The show was held at the Tumut Anglican Church hall on Saturday and Sunday and attracted good numbers of model entries and plenty of people who came and enjoyed viewing them.

Show co-organiser Graham Button said the show exceeded expectations.

“I didn’t keep a tally on the amount of people who came, but I will have to do that next time,” he said.

“It was terrific; we were over the moon with how many turned up.”

There were over 260 models on show, including, cars, trucks, planes, tanks, ships, science fiction stuff, figures – basically anything that can be made into a model, even an old-school pick-up truck with flying saucers with aliens in them in the back. The models had come from Tumut and from far and wide, including Wagga, Canberra, Sydney and Orange.

There were also three traders, one from Sydney, selling scale model-themed items and they were happy they did so.

There were many different categories, and eight major awards presented for exhibited models.

Perhaps the best thing to come out of the show was the money raised for CanAssist Tumut, which, while it is still coming in, is expected to be around the $2000.

“We give our heartfelt thanks to the organisers for the time and effort they put in to put on such a successful show, and for choosing us to benefit,” Can Assist Tumut’s Deb Robinson said.

Mr Button said organisers will run the show in Tumut again, and will aim to it again on the Falling Leaf Festival weekend.
