Wilde wins Jerry Stolhand Memorial

The Jerry Stolhand 36-hole memorial event was played at Tumut Golf Club over Saturday and Sunday, and the golfers were out and about, enjoying the crisp winter weather and firing some decent scores in the process.

David Wilde was the overall winner of the 36-hole event, recording a scratch score of 154 after hitting 77 on both days to take the win.

Robert Crawford blew a good lead, after scoring 72 on Saturday, to fall two shots short of Wilde on 156, when he scored 84 on the Sunday. 

James French finished in third with 164 and Larry Larder rounded out the top four with 174.

The stableford winner across both days was Brett Skeers with 75 points, after shooting 37 on Saturday and 38 on Sunday.

Skeers finished ahead of Byron Crawford (71), Neil Bye (66) and Darryl Ryan (64). 

The Open Ladies event for both days was won by Val Machell, who hit 193 off the stick to finish two shots ahead of Judy Cooper on 195 – Cooper will be ruing her score of 102 on the Saturday, after playing well on Sunday to scoring 93. 

The Open Ladies stableford winner was Karen Webb, who shot 61 points.  

On the Saturday, Keith Dehnert was the men’s scratch winner with 77 and Graeme Hartshorn won the stableford event with 36 points. 

The Open Ladies winner on Saturday was Paula Dean with 29 points. 

On the Sunday, Steven Kell was the scratch winner on 77 and Jim Power won the stableford event with 36 points. 

Kim Power was too good in the Open Ladies on Sunday with 32 points.

On Tuesday, 22 senior golfers took to the Tumut Golf Club fairways to play a back-nine stableford event, and Geoff Brain was the winner on 25 points, finishing one shot ahead of Ross Kell on 24 points. 

Barry lang on 21 points, led the six ball competition winners through to Greg Kell on 18. 

Geoff Brain also had the nearest to the pin on hole 17 with 2.62m.

Last Thursday’s Chook Run was a popular affair, with 33 golfers taking on the front nine stroke event and John Cruise was the winner on 31, finishing two shots ahead of Geoff Brain on 33. 

Peter Carolan led the nine ball competition winners on 33 through to Chicky McDonald on 35. Geoff Brain was again the nearest to the pin, this time on hole four with 6.26m.

In ladies golfing news, the first round of the Championships was played on Tuesday. 

After round one, the division one scratch leader is Judy Cooper, who hit 94 off the stick.

The division two scratch leader is Trish Roche 104, and the nett leader is Shirley McGrillen, who is ahead after scoring 80.

In division three, the scratch leader is Pam McDonald on 110 and the nett leader is Naida Murphy on 80.

Nearest to the pins in division one was Judy Cooper (2.78m), division two was Trish Roche (9.70m) and division three was Pam McDonald (3.84m).

Round two continues on Saturday, with four rounds to be played in the 72-hole championships.
